Paul composed his first letter to the Corinthians, presently lost, in the fall of 50 CE. The Corinthians pushed back very hard. They composed an answer to Paul with various inquiries. In the spring of 51 CE he composed a long letter back, our 1 Corinthians. This is the place where we begin to develop a more definite image of the local area, and it's anything but a lovely sight.
The congregation at Corinth was a wreck.
